BUSINESS MANDARIN PROGRAMME

The Business Mandarin Programme (Chinese Workplace Literacy Series), a collaboration between the Workforce Development Agency (WDA) and HANBAN based in Beijing, China. The Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business (SCCIOB) is the appointed training centre to conduct this programme. WDA course fee funding is available for Singaporeans & PRs.
The Business Mandarin Programme targets to assist working professionals acquire the necessary Chinese proficiency skills to handle business situations. This would include typing business emails, understanding information in Chinese, handling Chinese-speaking clients/counterparts or conducting meetings and presentations in Chinese with ease and confidence.

We are offering 3 programmes under the CWPL Series:
Beginner Level
Targeted at participants who are complete beginners and/or possess Primary 3 and below Chinese language proficiency. Participants have to produce their primary or high school transcript upon registration.
Intermediate/Advanced Level
Participants with Primary 3 and above in Chinese language proficiency are required to take the Business Chinese Test (BCT) before enrolment.
Funding Criteria
1. Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident in the workforce.
2. Achieve at least 75% attendance for the course.
3. Sit for Business Chinese Test before and after course.
4. Participate in a survey 3 months after the course and post-test.

Business Chinese Test
- Test results and the training recommendation by WDA would be released in 1 month from the test date. The test would determine the training level of the participant.
- The tests are conducted at Centre for Employability Skills at Redhill Rd, on a Saturday, twice a month.

Business Chinese Test Application Procedure
Submit the test application form and a copy of NRIC to SCCIOB. Payment for the test can be made only in cash and cheque. Please make the cheque payable to "SCCIOB".

Course Structure
Business Mandarin Comprehensive
This programme is designed for learners to acquire the necessary Chinese proficiency skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing aspects so that they can handle workplace situations in which Chinese language is required.
Beginner Level
- Hanyu Pinyin
- Ask and answer questions, recognise and write with 600 vocabularies
- Functional language such as greetings, introduction, talking about time and dates, asking for help at work
Intermediate Level
- Use of 1200 basic business phrases
- Read and write comprehensive passages and business materials (invitation letters, newspaper advertisements)
Advanced Level
- Communicate spontaneously with good grammatical control with at least 1500 business phrases
- Evaluate information in professional documents, e.g. case studies, graphs & tables

Business Mandarin Conversational
The Business Mandarin (Conversational) Programme is designed for working professionals to acquire listening, speaking and reading skills. These communication skills acquired are applicable to everyday life, community and business environment.
Beginner Level
- Master pronunciation, comprehend & compose simple sentences
- Ask and answer questions with 600 vocabularies
- Functional language such as greetings, introduction, talking about time and dates, asking for help at work
Intermediate Level
- Engage in basic business conversation using 1200 business phrases, eg. Exchange information about personal background, negotiate on a deal ,etc
Advanced Level
- Usage of 1500 business phrases and advanced expressions with good grammatical control
- Mock business presentations (case studies, discussions)

Business Mandarin Writing
The Business Mandarin (Writing) Programme is designed for learners who possess Mandarin conversational skills and wish to focus only on their reading and writing skills for business correspondences at work.
Beginner Level
- Basics and general formation rules of Chinese characters
- Recognise and write 600 basic Chinese phrases and simple passages and business letters
Intermediate Level
- Use of 1200 Chinese phrases
- Read and write comprehensive passages and business materials
- Analyse and discuss tables and graphs
Advanced Level
- Understand a minimum of 1500 Chinese phrases
- Read and write business report or proposals
- Evaluate information like financial reports, monthly reports etc
